Curriculum summary

Xurxo Gago is a tenure-track contract lecturer with a PhD at the University of the Balearic Islands. He lectures on undergraduate and master’s degree programmes at the faculties of Biology and Education, as well as on the Degree in Food and Agriculture Engineering and the Rural Environment at the Higher Polytechnic School.

He has participated in various postgraduate and training courses at national and overseas universities and centres, such as the University of Concepción (Chile), the University Centre in Svalbard (Norway), the Autonomous University of Tlaxcala (Mexico), Swansea University (UK), the University of Vigo (Spain) or CSIC (Spain).

His research focuses on the study of the trade-off between productivity and stress tolerance in plants, for which he uses a systems biology approach, integrating molecular to whole-plant biological levels. The research work he has conducted in the last 12 years has given rise to 50 SCI Q1 articles, roughly half of which have been published in D1 journals, and several of which are considered as ‘highly cited’ by the Web of Science.

He has undertaken postdoctoral stays at renowned scientific institutions such as the Max-Planck Institute (Berlin, Germany), the Carnegie Institution for Science (Stanford, USA), the University of Concepción (Chile), the University of the Frontier (Chile) and the University of Wollongong (Australia). He has also participated in scientific campaigns in some of the Earth’s most extreme environments, such as Antarctica (ECA-52 and 53, INACH Chile), the Arctic (Svalbard, Norway) or the Atacama Desert, Altiplano and Central Andes (Chile).
