Curriculum summary

Dr. Joan Estrany Bertos, Inca, Mallorca -1976, University Professor of Physical Geography, director of the Department of Geography of the UIB and also of the Observatory of Natural Risks and Emergencies of the Balearic Islands (https://riscbal.uib.cat).

He develops scientific research focused on the hydrology of river courses, the measurement of erosion in Mediterranean environments and, especially, knowledge transfer in natural risk management in the Balearic Islands. At the same time, he teaches Physical Geography at the University of the Balearic Islands since 2007.

With this background, the Observatory of Natural Risks and Emergencies of the Balearic Islands – RiscBal, has as main objective the deployment and management of a technological infrastructure based on an environmental monitoring network – RiscBal-Control, deployed in the Balearic Islands to control the risks of floods, fires, gravitational movements and climatic risks that allows the creation of the early warning system – RiscBal-Alertas, through real-time data and modeling.
