Curriculum summary
Dr Galmés holds a Degree in Biology (2001), a Master’s Degree in Quality and Environmental Management (2001) and a PhD in Biology from the UIB (2006).
He was awarded funding in 2007 to undertake a post-doctoral position at Rothamsted Research (United Kingdom) and the Australian National University.
He became a senior lecturer in 2011 and was made a full university professor in 2020 at the UIB Department of Biology. He lectures on the undergraduate programmes in food and agriculture engineering and the rural environment (GEAM), and biology, and on the Master’s Degree in Applied Biotechnology. He has organised and taken part in several PhD and post-doctoral courses at the UIB and overseas. Currently, he is a member of the UIB Biosafety Committee and the Quality Assurance and Credit Recognition and Transfer committees for the GEAM degree programme.
He has participated in different research projects funded by regional, national and international bodies, as well as companies in the private sector, either as PI or as part of the research team. He has authored articles in international journals, books and book chapters, and has taken part in national and international conferences. His research work has been awarded several prizes, including the Spanish Research Award for Water Relations (2008) and the ‘Sabater Award’ (2011, Spanish Society of Plant Physiology).
Dr Galmés regularly works as a reviewer at different international journals and funding agencies. He is also a member of the Minorca Biosphere Reserve Scientific Council on behalf of the University of the Balearic Islands.
