Curriculum summary

Jaume Flexas is a full professor at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where he has worked since 2001. He was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science from 2007 to 2011. He lectures on degree, master’s and PhD programmes at the UIB. He has regularly participated in various PhD programmes at other Spanish universities, and has organised several international courses at the UIB, the University of Concepción (Chile) and Wageningen University & Research (the Netherlands). Between 2012 and 2017, he was an assistant coordinator of the National Evaluation and Foresight Agency (ANEP) and the State Research Agency (AEI), the two state agencies responsible for evaluating research projects.

His research has been published across over 200 scientific papers and several book chapters, achieving an h-index of 77, as well as several distinctions and awards, amongst which are included the Sabater Award (2005, Spanish Society of Plant Physiology) and the Young Scientist FESPB Award in Plant Physiology, for the best young scientist under 35 years of age (2006, Federation of European Societies of Plant Biology). Since September 2005, he has been a Web of Science Most Cited Author (i.e. within the top 1%) in the fields of Plant and Animal Sciences and Environment/Ecology. Over 30 of his papers have been identified by ISI as ‘Highly Cited’, ‘Hot’, ‘Fast Breaking’ and/or ‘Research Front’. Since 2014, he has been systematically included, year after year, in the ‘Highly Cited Authors’ list (Clarivate), which identifies the most influential researchers in any scientific discipline.

He has supervised a number of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, undertaken research stays at many sites globally, and set up numerous international collaborations. Hence, more than 250 authors from over 30 countries have collaborated in his publications. Some of his closest collaborators outside the UIB and INAGEA are as follows: Joseph Berry (Stanford, USA), Barry Osmond (Australian National University), Hans Lambers (University of Western Australia), Ülo Niinemets (University of Tartu, Estonia), Francesco Loreto (CNR Firenze, Italy), Rafael Coopman (Austral University, Chile), and Antonio Diaz-Espejo (IRNAS, Seville). He is also an editor and/or reviewer for more than 100 international journals and research agencies.
